Grand Theatre & Video

Help our local treasure, Grand Theatre & Video, get a facelift!

The Grand Theatre is part of the Downtown Revitalization project and could use a little help coming up with the 25% match for the grant. The project would include tuck-pointing brick, replacing the parapet, resealing all windows and doors, and updating the existing marquee/awning. The GGCF is acting as the fiscal agent to raise these funds and as a nonprofit any donations are tax deductible.

See donation link here.

OR mail to GGCF/Theater Project, PO Box 13, Greenfield, IA.

The Downtown Revitalization grant is a partnership project between The Iowa Economic Development Authority, Southern Iowa Council of Government, City of Greenfield, Greenfield Chamber Main Street and participating building owners on the west side of the square.

Hill of Zion Shelter House

The Hill of Zion Union Township Park is looking to add to their space and you can help! The current shelter house is widely used for those looking for a picnic spot, reminisce and read their historic markers, serve refreshments after ceremonies at the cemetery, and for their well attended annual Hill of Zion Union Township Park Picnic. They are planning to add a 24’ by 32’ shelter house near the current structure, with projected costs of $12,500. That’s where you can help! If you are interested in donating to bring this addition to the Hill of Zion Union Township Park visit our website to donate online or send donations to GGCF, PO 13, Greenfield, IA 50849 (as the GGCF is serving as a fiscal agent for this project).

Sue Campbell Shepard Gift for Elementary Music

Sue Campbell Shepard, a distinguished alumna of Greenfield High School, and her late husband Don Helgeson have provided a generous gift to the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation (GGCF) focused on elementary school music. The gift provides a year-on-year amount for the Nodaway Valley Community School District to enhance the elementary music program starting in the 2024-25 school year. In providing this exceptional fund, Ms. Shepard has linked her respect for her alma mater, her love of music, her commitment to community giving, and her knowledge that music enhances students’ love of the arts and learning.

Ms. Shepard, now of Sartell, Minnesota, was born and raised in Adair County in   Bridgewater. Ms. Shepard, her parents, Jerry and Shirley Campbell, and her siblings eventually moved to Greenfield where she graduated from Greenfield High School in 1958. Ms. Shepard received her BA from the renowned Indiana University Jacob School of Music and later returned to Indiana for her MA in Philanthropic Studies, the first graduate of the then new philanthropy major at Indiana.

Sue lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for many years and was a soprano member of the Dale Warland professional chorus for 18 years. For 17 years she was on the staff of the University of Minnesota Foundation.

Greenfield City Pool

As you probably know, the Greenfield Community Swimming Pool is aging and needs some help.

This is a big project and a group has come together to work on helping Greenfield have a swimming pool that is safe and functional. Our local elected leaders for the pool are the mayor and the city council members.

The issue of how to fund the pool renovation or reconstruction certainly hasn’t been decided at this early stage. However, we do have some “getting started” expenses, and if you have an interest in a pool continuing to serve Greenfield and the surrounding area, a contribution for this initial work (engineers, consultants, surveys, etc.) would be greatly appreciated. The Greater Greenfield Foundation is acting as a repository for the pool money. The pool committee knows if they work through the GGGF, the foundation board would ensure that any money that is spent is a legitimate expense. Also, your contribution is tax deductible (if you itemize deductions and meet the federal threshold). Learn how to donate here.

Nodaway Lake Playground

The GGCF is raising funds for a new playground at the Nodaway Lake, situated at the campground. The goal for the project is $75,000, with $8,000 currently raised. If you would like to donate to the fund send your tax-deductible donation to GGCF, Lake Playground Fund, P.O. Box 13, Greenfield, IA 50849 or donate online here.
