Work has begun to repair and update the Lake Greenfield Disc Golf Course and you can help contribute! Donations can be made via our Paypal link (make sure to select Lake Greenfield Disc Golf). Below is an update on plans for this renovation.
Since 1989, disc golf has been an activity at Lake Greenfield. In May 2024, a tornado wrecked most the trees and 18 baskets within the course. Starting in April of 2025, the renovation started to replace and improve the course.
There will be 36 new baskets along with hole signs showing hole number and distance for two different tee locations for each hole. It’s like playing 72 holes vs 36! There will also be distance markers to the basket at 200, 150 and 100 feet from within the fareway. Red and gray pavers will mark the tee areas with future plans of replacing the pavers with concrete pads. The putting circle will also be marked around each basket with in-ground whiskers.
Finally, there will a new course sign showing all the holes and recognizing our donors. On hole 12, within the south course, there will be also a plaque of remembrance of the tornado and an elevated basket mounted within a pine stump.
Help our local treasure, The Grand Theatre, get a facelift!
The Grand Theatre is part of the Downtown Revitalization project and could use a little help coming up with the 25% match for the grant. The Downtown Revitalization grant is a partnership project between The Iowa Economic Development Authority, Southern Iowa Council of Government, City of Greenfield, Greenfield Chamber Main Street and participating building owners on the west side of the square.
If you have an interest in a pool continuing to serve Greenfield and the surrounding area, a contribution for this initial work (engineers, consultants, surveys, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.
The Gathering Place Giving Committee helps those in need with medical/dental and utility bills, the Christmas wish program, warm coats/boots for children, hygiene pantry, along with a host of other ways we help out each year.
